“I have learned you are never too small to make a difference” – Greta Thunberg 2018
I’ve always been passionate about the contribution I can make towards creating a better future for our planet, so when Sammy Anne’s first opened it was essential that this was a major part of the salon’s ethos – a vegan and eco-friendly retreat in the heart of Whitley Bay. We would love to share how Sammy Anne’s is doing everything we can to make the planet greener!
First, we have our own company forest! Being a member of Ecologi we are offsetting the carbon footprint of every one of our team members! This even includes emissions from their home, personal travel, holidays, food, hobbies and more. Every month we are planting groves of trees in our company forest, and financing carbon reduction projects from around the world.

If you want to offset your own personal carbon footprint you can become a member of Ecologi and have your very own forest! Just follow the link below. For every signup an additional 30 trees will be planted in the Sammy Anne’s forest.
The oil used in our treatments is purchased in bulk, and by refilling our smaller bottles we can keep any single use plastic to a minimum. We also use this method for all cleaning products, hand sanitiser and soaps. Where possible, we purchase larger bottles of essential oils which also reduces our waste. Any empty bottles are then cleaned and recycled.
Rather than using towels in our treatments, we have sourced 100% cotton sheets for our treatment tables. They are just as comfortable, but are much thinner which not only allows us to fit more into our laundry load, but they also have a shorter drying time whilst still maintaining a high level of hygiene. This means less water, less electricity and less heating!
Any sheets, towels and blankets that we can no longer use are donated to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue charity. The charity use our donations for seals being treated under heat lamps if they are hypothermic. Our donated towels can be rolled up next to young seals to act as “seal mums” if they have been orphaned. The donations can also be used to catch seals safely on the beach to avoid their rescuer getting bitten!
Any PPE used in the salon is recycled by the amazing organisation Reworked. They take hard to handle waste materials and rework them into new products such as furniture!
